The Seattle Times
For three months in 2015, I was a news artist intern at The Seattle Times where I produced daily charts, maps, and larger infographic projects. Below are a selection of projects from my time at the publication.
Retrofitting
I worked with the Metro news intern to produce a diagram explaining how retrofitting buildings helps to prevent damage from earthquakes. We both researched the material and confirmed our information and visual accuracy with expert sources in the field. I was responsible for the illustrations, design, and animations showing retrofitted and non-retrofitted buildings during an earthquake. (Timeline: 1.5 weeks)
Mount St. Helens glacier
Working with the paper’s science reporter, I illustrated and designed a diagram and timeline of how the world’s youngest glacier developed in the crater of Mount St. Helens. (Timeline: 3 days)
Breaking news dailies
Above are examples of daily infographics I created for breaking news, working closely with reporters and my editor. Each took no more than 3 hours to create.
