A little background
My name is Stephanie and I am a visual journalist and graphic designer living in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I turn stories and complex topics into something that readers can visually understand and interact with.
I am currently a senior designer with American City Business Journals. In my position, I design print covers and stories, visualize data, art direct photo shoots, create page designs and graphics for web articles and produce social media images and animations. Previously, I was a designer at the Washington Business Journal, the design editor at the Baltimore Business Journal, an editorial design co-op for The Boston Globe, a news artist intern at The Seattle Times and a design intern at The Cape Cod Times. I received my bachelor’s degree from Ball State University.
I work as a freelancer for consulting firms and publications, honing my data visualization skills and dabbling in the world of UX design. In my free time, I lead five designers with the Society for News Design on the Communications and Outreach team for the annual Creative Competition. We volunteer our time to create a visual identity for the competition, promote on social media and reach out to various organizations.
After almost nine years moving down the East Coast, my husband and I moved back to our hometown with our two cats, Kevin and Finn. We even added another kitty to the mix – Tobias Fünke. As a Hoosier native, I enjoy long walks to the corner gas station for snacks, and short walks to the garage fridge for more snacks.
